Learning beyond the classroom

We believe some of the most meaningful learning happens in the real world. Through regular excursions and hands-on experiences, tamariki explore their community, connect with nature, meet new people, and develop a deeper understanding of the world around them.

Whether visiting parks, bush areas, museums, farms, shops, schools, community spaces, or special events, children learn in real places, with real people, alongside their friends and teachers. These experiences help bring learning to life, building confidence, curiosity, resilience, and a strong sense of belonging.

First explorations

Up to 2 Years

Even our youngest tamariki experience the world beyond the centre. Through buggy walks and gentle outings, infants have opportunities to observe, listen, explore, and engage with their surroundings in a safe and nurturing way.

Active discovery

2–3 Years

As children's confidence and mobility grow, so do their opportunities for exploration. Tamariki actively participate in regular excursions, discovering new places, meeting people, and developing confidence as capable learners.

School and Community Explorers

From 4 Years

Older children take part in a wider range of community and out-of-town experiences that challenge their thinking, extend their interests, and deepen their understanding of the world around them.

  • Participating in our school readiness programme, including regular visits to local schools and opportunities to experience real classrooms, routines, and expectations, supporting a confident and positive transition to school

  • Continuing our tradition of excursions to museums, farms, schools, sporting facilities, performances, and community events, providing rich real-world learning experiences beyond the centre

  • Developing resilience, problem-solving skills, teamwork, leadership, social competence, and respectful social behaviours

  • Building strong connections with their community, environment, and the people within it
