Nourishing Growing Bodies and Minds
At Queens Park ECE, we understand that good nutrition plays an important role in children's wellbeing, learning, and ability to thrive throughout the day. We provide a supportive and flexible approach to food that meets the needs of each child and family.
Allergy-aware environment
We take allergies and dietary requirements seriously. Our team works closely with families to ensure children’s individual needs are safely and carefully supported.
Morning & Afternoon
Tea Provided
Morning and afternoon tea are provided free of charge each day. Children enjoy a selection of fresh seasonal fruit, along with a variety of nutritious snacks such as biscuits, jam or buttered toast, and home baking. Whenever possible, baking and food preparation are incorporated into our programme, often using ingredients purchased during our community excursions and shopping trips.
We also regularly enjoy picnic-style snack times, where children gather together to share food, develop social skills, and enjoy a sense of community.
Optional Local
Lunch Service
For families who would like additional convenience, we offer an optional lunch ordering service from trusted local suppliers. Fresh lunches are delivered daily to the centre and can be ordered in advance, providing a flexible alternative for busy families.
Shared mealtimes also create valuable opportunities for learning. As children enjoy a variety of foods together, they naturally engage in conversations about what they are eating, share their likes and dislikes, explore new flavours, and learn about different foods and cultures. These everyday interactions help develop language skills, social confidence, and positive attitudes towards trying new foods.

real food experiences
Hands-On, Meaningful, and Fun
We believe children learn best through real experiences. That's why we create opportunities for tamariki to explore food in authentic and meaningful ways, connecting learning beyond the centre with everyday life.
From weekly supermarket visits and local blueberry farm excursions to preparing snacks, baking, and making playdough together, children actively participate in the journey from source to plate. Older children are often invited into the kitchen to help prepare morning and afternoon tea, giving them opportunities to develop practical life skills, confidence, responsibility, and independence.
These hands-on experiences encourage curiosity about where food comes from and foster an appreciation for healthy eating. Along the way, tamariki learn to follow instructions, make choices, solve problems, work collaboratively, and develop confidence in their own abilities.
Food experiences also provide opportunities for rich conversations as children discuss ingredients, share ideas, explore new tastes and textures, and learn from one another's experiences. By actively participating in food preparation and exploration, children gain a deeper understanding of their community, environment, and the role food plays in keeping our bodies healthy and strong.
